Welcome to the aubrey singers.
Our Summer concert will feature a programme of contemporary composers, including Christopher Tin’s luminous and contemplative The Lost Birds as well as music by Jonathan Dove and Alex Berko. In sharp contrast to the drama and grandeur of our resounding Verdi Requiem at Cadogan Hall, The Lost Birds offers stillness and wonder at the fragile beauty of the natural world.

Our Spring concert featured a fabulous collaboration with three other choirs -The Fourth Choir, New London Singers and Putney Choral Society. We all came together under the baton of Jamie Powe to perform one of the most powerful works of the choral repertoire, Verdi’s Requiem at London’s Cadogan Hall on 26th April. The stage filled with more than 160 singers, the British Sinfonietta and soloists Rachel Nichols, Jess Dandy, Robert Lewis, and Blaise Malaba. The concert also featured Jamie Powe’s Gun Mass, a Missa Brevis for double choir which brings to musical life Haley Hodges’ evocative liturgical and artistic response of mourning to recent mass shootings.
This was a night to remember and the culmination of a wonderful project but the icing on the cake was to receive a phenomenal 4.5* review from musicomh.com.
about the aubrey singers
We are a dynamic and ambitious chamber choir set up in 2022 and based in London’s Notting Hill. We aspire to combine musical excellence with a friendly atmosphere and a strong sense of community.
The choir consists of 40/50 singers who take great pride and pleasure in performing choral music to a high standard. We sing a wide-ranging and inspiring repertoire, from baroque to contemporary : from Purcell, Mozart and Bach, through to Verdi, Brahms, Duruflé and Vaughan-Williams as well as recent composers such as McDowall, Andrew, Palmeri, Tin, Berko and Dove. We put on two or three concerts a year and, although we all share a love of singing and performing, we also enjoy the camaraderie, the making of new friends and the connections that are all part of the experience. We want singing to be fun and exciting.
Our musical director is Jamie Powe, choral conductor, composer and singer who has directed the choir since its inception.
Our concerts regularly feature professional soloists and ensembles. We make particular efforts to support young singers in their early careers by offering them regular work and solo opportunities in concerts where possible.
We rehearse every Sunday evening at St George’s Church, Campden Hill , W8.
We are a registered charity. (Charity Number 1200924)
